University of Tennessee Athletics to host cleanup as part of No Trash November

November 15 event postponed to November 29 due to weather concerns

KNOXVILLE – The University of Tennessee is teaming up with the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s (TDOT) Nobody Trashes Tennessee on November 15 as part of No Trash November, a month-long statewide initiative encouraging Tennesseans to participate in cleanup events in their communities. This event which was originally scheduled to take place on November 15 has been postponed due to weather concerns and will now take place on November 29.

“The natural beauty throughout the state of Tennessee and our campus is incredible. It is something that our alumni, fans and students should, and do, take great pride in,” said Tennessee Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics Danny White. “It’s a priority for us to do our part in keeping our community clean. We are proud that our student-athletes and athletics staff are giving their time and energy to be a part of this cleanup event to keep Tennessee beautiful.”

“We are thrilled to have UT Knoxville as a No Trash November campaign partner this year,” said TDOT Transportation Program Supervisor Denise Baker. “UT is joining volunteers from across the state in November to help us in our mission to prevent and reduce litter in Tennessee.”

The November 29 cleanup will be held from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. Cleanup participants will meet on campus at the Torchbearer where they will receive cleanup supplies and safety instruction.

Last year’s inaugural campaign included more than 1,000 volunteers who collected more than 46,000 pounds of litter from the state’s roadways. In partnership with Keep Knoxville Beautiful, Keep Tennessee Beautiful (KTnB) and Adopt-A-Highway groups, residents are invited to join public events being held across the state.

Campaign tools and resources including a cleanup location map and a trash tracker measuring pounds collected are also available. All residents are encouraged to show their support for a litter-free Tennessee by using the #NobodyTrashesTennessee and #NoTrashNovember hashtags in social media to highlight their litter prevention actions throughout the month.
