The November 1 cleanup helps kick off No Trash November, the month-long initiative that encourages all Tennesseans to participate in cleanup events in their communities
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Oct. 30, 2024 – University of Tennessee Athletics is teaming up with Tennessee Department of Transportation’s (TDOT) Nobody Trashes Tennessee and Keep Knoxville Beautiful again this year as part of No Trash November, a month-long statewide initiative encouraging Tennesseans to participate in cleanup events in their communities. Student-athletes, University of Tennessee Athletics staff and community volunteers will be doing their part to help kick-off the month by cleaning up around the campus from 1 – 3 p.m.
“The students, staff and faculty at the University of Tennessee have a tremendous amount of pride in our campus and the Knoxville community,” said Jessica Wildfire, Ed. D., executive director tor student athlete development, University of Tennessee Athletics. “We live, work and play in a beautiful area and it’s our duty as Tennessee Volunteers to do our part to keep it clean and litter free. It’s wonderful again to join forces with TDOT and Keep Knoxville Beautiful to kick off No Trash November in the state of Tennessee.”
Director of Programs, Keep Knoxville Beautiful, Amanda Seale, added, “Every year, KKB looks forward to partnering with TDOT and UT to tackle litter in our community. This year, we are excited to focus our efforts on Cumberland Avenue, an area our student volunteers are very familiar with. We hope by concentrating on this area where our student volunteers live, work, study, and play, that they will strengthen their appreciation for their adopted home here in Knoxville and empower them to keep Knoxville clean, green, and beautiful.”
Last year’s No Trash November included more than 150 events with over 2,200 volunteers who collected more than 86,000 pounds of litter from the state’s roadways. “We are grateful for our many partners with a passion for keeping their local communities clean, safe and beautiful,” said Brittany Morris, transportation program supervisor, TDOT. “Launching No Trash November with the university and Keep Knoxville Beautiful is the perfect way to kick-off the month.”
New this year, and to encourage individuals to get involved in No Trash November, is the Trash Masters Rewards program. Participants earn points for various activities like taking a litter quiz, attending cleanup events, and spreading awareness. Participants can earn double points for all activities throughout the month of November, making it the perfect time to join. Points can be redeemed for a variety of rewards, including discounts at local businesses and exclusive NTT swag. It’s a fun and engaging way for individuals to contribute to a litter-free Tennessee while being recognized for their commitment to the environment.
